What can we
do to help?
Yes, pets need to be
adopted but, everyone can’t necessarily get one. It isn’t for everyone but, that
doesn’t mean we can’t help in other ways. The amount of hours that it takes to
run the humane society is way more than they have the funding for. They house
the animals, feed, train, and walk them for the most part. On my latest research
day I went and volunteered at the humane society. It was hard to see so many
animals there that need a home. They also need people to come in and play with
the cats or walk the dogs and that’s where I came into play. If you are
interested in that here is the humane society’s link.
oregonhumane.org It was a very
rewarding experience and if you do like animals it is defiantly worthwhile. They
have a whole room dedicated to kittens that you can go into which is an awesome
experience. Also if you chose to do so, you can pretty much walk any dog you
want on the trails around the facility. Which if you are planning on adopting a
dog I would defiantly walk them on the trails (again research) and get a good
feel for the dog. Also donations can be made through the link I just gave even a tiny donation will go along way. Also if you have a car ,truck or van lying around and would like to get rid of it the Oregon humane society will take it and you will receive a tax write off from them. from this they are able to raise 400,000 dollars annually for the animals in need.

Dog walking might be a great way to exercise with a purpose, too. Just walking the neighborhood feels so pointless.
ReplyDeleteI did a day of volunteer work back home, it was'nt like the facilities here, small community, but the expierience like you said was great. It is quite a job keeping up the daily chores and I'm sure the cost is stagering. I found a program here @ PCC outsidein.org that has this type of facility. And may apply for a job there this fall through work study.
