all are diffrent breeds and come in many different colors as seen above. Could you spot the difference between em? Neither can most people. So When an attack is reported from one of these breeds they get thrown into the category of "Pit-Bull"which translates to mixed bully breed. So when i say Pits or Pit-Bulls in this blog please keep this in mind. Theses dogs represent one in four of the dogs that get taken into animal shelters. These breeds are very misunderstood and is portrayed terribly by the media. These dogs are loyal, very obedient, and eager to please. Yes, they say pit-bulls bite the most every year but the real truth is that they are the most REPOTED bite every year. Everyone should be educated before making a decision to adopt a dog but, this is 5 reasons why you should consider adopting a pit-bull.

 1.  Easy grooming- Un-like a lot of other breeds pit-bulls have a short coat very easy to give a bath to and brushing is extremely easy and no need to pay a groomer for fancy haircuts.

2.    Loyalty-When you adopt a Pit Bull, you have a friend for life, through thick and thin. While Pit Bulls are not good guard dogs because they just love people so much, they may take action if someone threatens “their” humans.

3.   Super silly-Pit Bulls are hilarious. Just like people, all dogs are distinct individuals, but Pit Bulls are usually bursting with personality and they love to make us laugh by clowning around. They are fun and playful, even as they get older.

4.    Cuddle Bugs-Pit Bulls love to cuddle. Even the most athletic Pit Bull will also have a sedentary side and crave being hugged and petted. Adopt a Pit Bull and you will have a constant companion keeping you warm in bed, on the couch, on your lap in your favorite chair. Did I mention that many Pit Bulls don’t realize they are too big to be lap dogs? For this reason and because they are so trainable, Pit Bulls can be excellent therapy dogs!

  5. This should be number one but, The Pit Bull smile. Pit Bulls are great for your mental health. If you are having a bad day, one look at your Pit Bull’s huge smile and their big tongue will surely make you smile.

These dogs in the 1800 were used for varmint hunting, pulling carts, and also known for their babysitting capabilities on the farm. Still today they par take in pulling contest around the world and are still used for hunting boars that have become a nuance in the bayou and other areas around the United States where these hogs are destroying crops and even killing livestock.

Hopefully this has shed a little bit more light on these awesome K-9's.
Here is a video showing off the capability of these amazing creatures. Worth checking out trust me!

The Doggie Dash!!!!!

                What is the doggie dash?

The doggie dash is an event to raise money for the Oregon humane society. Every year on May 11th water front park is shut down for the dogs. People that registered for the event partake in a walk or run around the water front trail. The goal every year goes up a little bit but this year they are trying to raise 450,000 dollars. They have already surpassed that goal thanks to all of the people who registered their team and raised money for them. Each year the top team receives not only a massive applause form the

Thousands at water front park but they also receive a trophy. I have been to the event before and it is really a sight to see many different breeds and tons of cool vendors.

The 2012 Doggie Dash Team Trophy was awarded to the JabberWalkies. They also have individual awards for the top donators #1 Individual Fundraiser: The individual who collects the most donations for Doggie Dash will receive a trip for two to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Airfare donated by Alaska Airlines.

A generous donor is providing complimentary lodging (estimated value $1,050) for one week in a one bedroom condo with fantastic views of Land's End in Cabo San Lucas

#2 Individual Fundraiser: The person who gathers the second-highest total donations for the Dash will receive two tickets to A Midsummer's Night with The Monkees, a concert at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on August 18.

#3 Individual Fundraiser: The third top individual fundraiser will win a pair of tickets to the Heart and Jason Bonham Led Zeppelin Experience concert at Sleep Country Amphitheater on August 30.

They also have smaller prizes for the smaller donations as well. If you are interested in either making a donation or make team for next year you can go to http://www.oregonhumane.org/doggiedash/

Good samartain

What can we do to help?

Yes, pets need to be adopted but, everyone can’t necessarily get one. It isn’t for everyone but, that doesn’t mean we can’t help in other ways. The amount of hours that it takes to run the humane society is way more than they have the funding for. They house the animals, feed, train, and walk them for the most part. On my latest research day I went and volunteered at the humane society. It was hard to see so many animals there that need a home. They also need people to come in and play with the cats or walk the dogs and that’s where I came into play. If you are interested in that here is the humane society’s link.  oregonhumane.org   It was a very rewarding experience and if you do like animals it is defiantly worthwhile. They have a whole room dedicated to kittens that you can go into which is an awesome experience. Also if you chose to do so, you can pretty much walk any dog you want on the trails around the facility. Which if you are planning on adopting a dog I would defiantly walk them on the trails (again research) and get a good feel for the dog. Also donations can be made through the link I just gave even a tiny donation will go along way. Also if you have a car ,truck or van lying around and would like to get rid of it the Oregon humane society will take it and you will receive a tax write off from them. from this they are able to raise 400,000 dollars annually for the animals in need.

commiment

Second thing- Commitment

Both dogs and cats live anywhere from seven to twenty years depending on breed and Quality of life. They will need good food, healthy diet, hundreds of dollars in shots and vet visits. If you are not ready for all of this don’t even bother adopting. No point in getting an animal if you aren’t ready financially. They are living breathing creatures that will demand not only your time and money and will demand your respect as well. So many horror stories of abandoned pets left with no food or water in the hot sun or people just get up and move and leave there pet behind because of financial problems or even worse being involved in dog fighting. If lack of food is the case there are groups out there, just like for us humans to help us out with dog  food. Animal food stamps was opened in February of this year. Since then the organization has received more than 125,000 applications covering more than 250,000 pets. The non-profit provides free pet food to owners who need a little help to get to the end of the month. People run into financial problems all the time but, that doesn’t mean you need to abandon your pet there is help. Do your research and find out what programs that will fit you needs. If we treat them right they will be here for you forever. adopting a pet is a great felling everyone should try it at least once, if you are ready that is.

Resaerch is key!

First thing is first-do your research!

I can’t stress this step enough. So many different breeds that act completely different. Let’s take dogs for instance. If you are an older lady in an apartment and don’t get out much then why would you go and adopt a border collie or even an Australian cattle dog? Both breeds are very adorable and can be well behaved. Both are also known to be hyper, there is a reason for this and it is because over the years humans have breed them to be out in a field running all day, or as dog handlers call them “working breeds” these working breeds have made our life easier but in the wrong hands it will do the exact opposite.
The same thing can be said about cats as well. Many different breeds of cats act a certain way. Some short hair, some long, some calm some are more adventurous. Pretty much everyone has access to the internet these days so open up that web browser and start searching and really understand the breed you are thinking about getting. So many of these creatures get turned in because owners say “oh the hair is to long I can’t keep care of it” or “They are to hyper I can’t have that around my kids”. there is a perfect breed for every life style, If people would just do there research then it could prevent a lot of this from happening

Pick me!

Why should people adopt pets ?

6-8 million cats and dogs are in the care of the humane societies in the United States. From those 3-4 million are euthanized, that number is probably even higher because not all the shelters have to report all of their euthanizations.
The first thing people need to do before getting any type of pet is to make sure they are ready for them. Yes, kittens and puppies are very cute, but they do grow up into big dogs and cute little kittens are necessarily so cute when they grow up. It takes a lot of work that goes with them. If you do choose to adopt a pet you will receive a decrease in stress an increases in your physical health. Also it has been scientifically proven to improve your mental health as well. There is a saying that goes around and it says “who adopted who” because most the times the adopted pets help the owner out so much with their mental and physical health that they fell the pet as actually adopted them instead of vice versa.
